QuestionMigrating from WebCT to Moodle
AnswerPer John Myers, Instructional Technology Consultant, 3/25/08: "The broad steps needed to migrate from WebCT to Moodle are: 1. To clean up our current WebCT server by removing old, no longer needed courses. 2. To prepare the WebCT courses that will be migrated to Moodle 3. To migrate the course content to Moodle 4. To create new courses in Moodle Details on how to accomplish each of the steps above will be available in the coming weeks. There will be scheduled workshops that you can attend as well as tutorials posted on the Instructional Technology website. And I'm always willing to work with you one-on-one. Today, I'm asking you to look at your WebCT courses and let me know which you will be migrating to Moodle and which you no longer need. This will give me a better idea of the scope of the physical migration of courses to Moodle and also tell me which courses can be removed from the WebCT server. Please respond by Friday, April 4. I know the thought of moving to and learning a new application can create apprehension and anxiety for you, especially an application like this that may be central to your teaching strategy. Let me reassure you that you will not be left to negotiate this on your own. I will be available to help you no matter what problems you may encounter. I have found that Moodle is not difficult to use, and I believe you will be pleased with the results of this change. If we take it one step at a time, the transition to Moodle will be smooth and manageable."
