If you are using a UNCA-owned computer, virus protection (Trend) is installed on your computer and automatically updates itself every few hours.
This
is not to say that you will never get a virus, no protection is
perfect, but if you see a message pop up to inform you that your virus
protection is out of date or that you should install something DO NOT
DO IT.
In the vast majority of cases these pop-ups
are actually malware and viruses themselves! They're trying to trick

You can scan for viruses yourself.
UNCA
uses Trend Micro's OfficeScan for virus protection on Windows machines.
Mac OS computers are largely immune to viruses. The icon for OfficeScan
looks like a blue circle with a wavy, yellow line through it and
appears in the "system tray" area near your clock.
I f you want to manually scan your computer for viruses go to:
Start > All Programs > Trend Micro OfficeScan Client > OfficeScan Client.
On the "Manual Scan" tab, click to check the box next to "My Computer", then click Scan.

ITS will never contact you via email, phone, or any other way to ask for your "account information" or password.
If you receive an email, even if it appears to be from ITS and has an @ unca.edu email address it is bogus and an attempt at "phishing" or identity
theft. Please do not respond to these emails, simply delete them. You
do not need to forward these to the Help Desk - if you received an
email like this likely so did folks in ITS.
